Beltane on the Beach

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring my children to Beltane on the Beach?

Absolutely! Children always have, and always will be more than welcome to attend.

Can I bring my dog to BotB?
The rules regarding pets are set by the State. This is a State Park, and we must respect their rules. As posted, no dogs are allowed on Popham Beach between May 1 and October 1 each year. You can read the full list of State Park rules here.

What should I bring if I want to participate in the May Poles?
All you need to bring to participate in the May Poles is 9 yards of ribbon. It can be any color, and any style (although sturdier, wider ribbon works best). If you have extra ribbon, feel free to bring it too for those that might forget theirs. :)

I would like to hold my own ritual or ceremony during the day. Who should I talk to about that?
Many people choose to make Beltane on the Beach an occasion to hold their own rite or ritual on the beach. There have been hand-fastings, baby-blessings, and various other rites of passage. If you would like to hold such an event as a sub-set of the days activities, please let us know by clicking here. This is just so that we can coordinate timing, and ensure that everyone has the time and space they require.

Are there any rules on Popham Beach, or does anything go?
While we are a free-thinking and free-spirited community, we are guests at a State Park. As such, all of the normal rules for Popham Beach do apply. This includes no nudity, no guns, no alchohol, no drugs, etc. You can read the full list of rules for all Maine State parks here.
