Project Log

The Deep Seeker Project Diary

Update: December 20, 2011

I placed a call today to the Engineering department at Maine Maritime Academy. I am hopeful I can find a genuine nautical engineering professor to talk to me about hull thickness and support configuraton for the depth I want to achieve.

Update: October 31, 2011

I have posted a new 3-view diagram of Deep Seeker. Back to the old-school hand-drawn method for this one. I wanted to make sure the dimensions were correct. I am happy with the final look and proportions. You can see my work here.

Update: October 7, 2011

I have finally completed the first Communications diagram on the Design pages. This shows the details of the Surface Communication Module (SCM) as well as all connections etc that will facilitate Internet connection while Deep Seeker is submerged. You can check it out here.

Update: October 6, 2011

The biggest news to report is the new website you are looking at right now. This represents the evolution this project has begun to go through. First, I chose a name for the sub - the Deep Seeker. This of course has led to the entire project now being called The Deep Seeker Project. Stay tuned for more updates soon! Or click here to get involved!

Update: August 29, 2011

I have updated the Plumbing & Pipes page, as well added new diagrams to the Plans & Drawings page. There is a new diagram on the Networking page as well. There is also now a brand new Reference Library, where I will store any hard-copy documents (PDF's, Word Doc's, etc) for anyone to download for free. Every little bit helps, right?

Update: August 23, 2011

*I have added more detailed drawings of the exterior and interior that I created with Microsoft Visio 2010. You can see them here. There is also a new Electrical Diagram that you can see here.

Update: August 16, 2011

I have finally settled on a cylindrical design, with a 25 foot hull, and two 22 foot external pontoon/ballast tanks. The hull will be 8 feet in diameter. There are new plans in on the Sketches & Drawings page.

Update: June 21, 2011

Major re-design in the works! I have given up and am now designing a cylindrical shaped hull. New plans will be posted soon!

Update: June 1, 2011

I realized that my engine needed to be located farther forward, to allow room for a rudder assembly. I re-worked several plans you can see here.

Update: May 31, 2011

More changes. Mostly with the ballast tanks. The new design allows for much greater capacity and control.

Update: May 25, 2011

I have had to seriously re-think my design plan, but it has been a good exercise. Currently my design calls for a sub 25' long and 8' wide, with 5' of head clearance inside. You can see the new plan here.

Update: May 24, 2011

I have been readng and learning a lot - mostly about ballast and ballast tanks. I added a new page above just for the design of the ballast tanks themselves.

April, 2011

Planning and Design is where I am at right now. This is the first step in what will be a long process. I anticipate around a ten year build cycle for this project. Right now, it's sketches and graph paper while I work out what I want the actual look and function of my submarine to be. I am doing a lot of research, and a lot of thinking.

Check back here often. I will be adding information to these pages as my project progresses!.
